Chapter 5: The Police
The police took Victoria away in handcuffs.
Elena stood at the nursery window, watching the flashing lights disappear down the long driveway. Leo slept in her arms, safe for the first time in weeks.
The lead detective approached her gently.
“We’ll need a full statement. The maid has already given hers. The milk tested positive for a lethal dose of rat poison.”
Elena nodded, voice calm but empty. “She tried to kill my son because he wasn’t ‘pure’ Sterling blood.”
The detective’s face hardened. “We’ll charge her with attempted murder. This won’t be easy, but we have strong evidence.”
Marcus stood beside Elena, silent and pale.
The police left after taking samples and statements.
The nursery, once a place of joy, now felt like a crime scene.
Elena looked at her husband.
“You have to choose,” she said. “Your mother or your son.”
Marcus’s voice broke. “I choose you. Both of you.”
Elena didn’t reply.
She simply held Leo tighter and walked out of the nursery.
