Chapter 9: The Arrest
Victoria was formally arrested the next morning.
The charges were attempted murder of a child, possession of poison with intent to harm, and conspiracy. The evidence was overwhelming: the vial, the footage, the maid’s testimony, and Victoria’s own words in the interrogation.
The family fell apart quickly after that.
Marcus moved out of the main house. He filed for divorce from Elena but asked for visitation with Leo. Elena agreed, but only under supervision.
Charles tried to distance himself from his wife. Lauren disappeared to Europe with what money she had left.
The Sterling name, once feared and respected, became a scandal in the papers.
Victoria sat in her cell, alone, and for the first time in her life, she had no one left to control.
The arrest was not satisfying for Elena.
It was simply necessary.
