Chapter 10: The Wedding Day

The day of Arthur’s wedding arrived with clear skies and perfect weather.
He had chosen an expensive venue just outside Savannah. Over two hundred guests were expected. Vanessa looked beautiful in her white gown. Arthur stood at the altar, smiling like a man who believed he had finally escaped his past.
He had no idea what was coming.
Charles arrived with the three girls just as the ceremony was about to begin. They didn’t go inside right away. Instead, they waited near the entrance with Margaret Hale and two large envelopes.
When the officiant asked if anyone had any reason why the couple should not be married, Charles stepped forward.
Arthur’s face went pale the moment he saw them.
Charles walked slowly down the aisle and stopped in the middle of the room. The entire wedding fell silent.
He looked at Arthur, then at the guests.
“Before this wedding continues,” he said clearly, “there are some things everyone here should know about the groom.”
Arthur tried to stop him.
“Charles, don’t do this—”
But it was too late.
Charles opened one of the envelopes and held up several printed pages.
“These are pages from my daughter Rose’s notebook. She wrote them while she was still alive. In them, she described years of emotional abuse, control, and threats from her husband — this man standing here today.”
Gasps spread through the crowd.
Charles continued.
“We also have audio recordings of Arthur threatening Rose. And we have proof that he was seeing Vanessa long before Rose died.”
Arthur’s face had turned completely white. Vanessa looked like she might faint.
Charles held up the second envelope.
“And finally,” he said, “there is one more thing Rose left behind. Something she wanted used only if Arthur tried to abandon their daughters.”
He looked straight at Arthur.
“This envelope contains enough evidence to destroy whatever is left of your reputation. If you continue with this wedding, I will make every single page and recording public.”
The entire venue was dead silent.
Arthur stood frozen at the altar, unable to speak.
Vanessa slowly turned to look at him, her expression filled with shock and betrayal.
Charles looked at the three girls standing beside him. Lucy, Rachel, and April watched quietly, their faces calm.
Then he turned back to Arthur.
“The choice is yours,” he said. “You can walk away from this wedding right now… or you can watch everything you’ve built fall apart in front of everyone here.”

Arthur looked at his fiancée, then at the crowd, then back at Charles.
For the first time in his life, he had no words.
