Chapter 7: The Investigation

Charles met with Margaret Hale again. This time, he brought more than just Rose’s notebook.

He brought the recordings, the photos, and a growing file of Arthur’s financial moves since Rose’s death.

Margaret reviewed everything carefully.

“Arthur is trying to move money around,” she said. “He’s already transferred some of Rose’s assets into accounts under Vanessa’s name. If we don’t act fast, he could hide a lot of it.”

“What can we do?” Charles asked.

“We file for emergency guardianship of the girls first,” Margaret explained. “At the same time, we can request that the court freeze all marital assets until everything is settled. We should also prepare to send a formal warning to Arthur’s lawyer.”

Charles nodded.

“There’s one more thing,” he said. “The girls mentioned their mother left something specifically to stop the wedding. An envelope. I haven’t opened it yet.”

Margaret looked at him seriously.

“Whatever is in that envelope, we need to see it before Arthur’s wedding. If it’s strong enough, we can use it to pressure him into a better settlement — or stop the wedding altogether.”

That night, Charles sat alone in his study with the sealed brown envelope.

He didn’t open it yet.

He wanted to wait until he was sure they needed it.

Because once that envelope was opened, there would be no going back.
