Chapter 9: Arthur’s Panic
Arthur was starting to lose control.
His fiancée, Vanessa, had begun asking questions after receiving a mysterious package containing copies of some of Rose’s writings and photos of Arthur with other women. She didn’t cancel the wedding, but the tension between them was growing.
At the same time, Arthur’s lawyer kept warning him that the evidence against him was strong — especially the recordings and financial documents.
One night, Arthur showed up at Charles’s house unannounced.
He looked tired and angry.
When Charles opened the door, Arthur didn’t even wait to be invited in.
“You think you can blackmail me with some old notebook?” he snapped. “Those are just the ramblings of a bitter woman.”
Charles stood calmly in the doorway.
“Rose wrote everything down because she was afraid of you. And from what I’ve seen, she had every reason to be.”
Arthur’s face twisted.
“Give me my daughters back. They belong with their father.”
Charles looked at him without emotion.
“They don’t want to see you. And after everything you’ve done, I’m not going to force them.”
Arthur stepped closer, his voice low and threatening.
“You’re making a big mistake, Charles. I can make your life very difficult.”
Charles didn’t flinch.
“You already did that when you tried to throw your own children away at their mother’s funeral.”

For the first time, Arthur looked genuinely afraid.
