Chapter 11: The Fallout

The wedding never happened.
The moment Charles finished speaking, Vanessa turned and walked out of the venue without saying a word. Her family followed her. Within minutes, half the guests had left. The rest stood around in stunned silence, whispering.
Arthur stood frozen at the altar, his face drained of color. He looked at Charles, then at his three daughters standing beside their grandfather.
“You… you destroyed everything,” he said hoarsely.
Charles replied calmly.
“No, Arthur. You did that yourself. I just made sure everyone saw it.”
Arthur tried to approach the girls, but Lucy stepped in front of her sisters.
“Don’t come near us,” she said, her voice steady. “We don’t want to see you.”
Arthur looked at her like he didn’t recognize his own daughter.
Security eventually escorted him out of the venue. He left alone. His new life, his reputation, and his wedding were all gone in a single afternoon.

That evening, the story was already spreading through Savannah. Arthur’s business partners began distancing themselves. His assets were frozen pending the divorce and custody proceedings. The man who had once walked away from his daughters at their mother’s funeral now had nothing left but consequences.
Charles took the girls home. None of them spoke much during the drive, but for the first time in weeks, the car felt peaceful.
