Chapter 10: The Truth About the Theft
Finnley spent several nights going through the documents in the storage unit again, this time with fresh eyes.
One evening, while reviewing the bank transfers, he noticed something important.
Many of the fake invoices and suspicious withdrawals weren’t made by Reagan. They were authorized by Carter.
There were also several messages between Carter and one of the company’s suppliers, along with large cash withdrawals made under Carter’s name. It became very clear that Carter had been the main person behind the theft, while Reagan helped cover it up and spent the money.
Finnley took the evidence straight to Leonard the next morning.
“This is it,” Leonard said after going through the documents. “We can prove that Carter was the one who stole the money and framed you. Reagan was involved, but Carter was the mastermind.”
Finnley felt a cold anger rise in his chest.
All these years, he had believed Reagan was the main villain. But it turned out Carter had been the one who destroyed his life and sent him to prison.
“He let me take the fall for something he did,” Finnley said quietly.
Leonard nodded.
“And now we have the proof to clear your name and make him pay for it.”
Finnley looked at the evidence spread across the table.
