Chapter 9: The Counterattack

Reagan and Carter didn’t stay quiet for long.

The very next day, their lawyer filed a motion claiming the new will was fraudulent. They also tried to freeze Finnley’s access to any assets connected to the company while the case was ongoing.

At the same time, strange things started happening again.

Finnley’s motel room was broken into one night. Nothing valuable was taken, but his laptop was smashed and some of his documents were scattered across the floor. It was clearly a warning.

He moved to another motel immediately.

That same week, he started receiving threatening messages on his new phone.

One message simply read:
“Stop digging. Or you’ll end up like your father.”

Finnley didn’t reply. Instead, he saved every message and showed them to Leonard.

The old lawyer’s face grew serious.

“They’re getting desperate,” he said. “That’s both good and dangerous. Desperate people make mistakes, but they can also become violent.”

Finnley nodded.

“I’m not stopping,” he said. “Not until I get justice for my father.”

Leonard looked at him with concern.

“Just be careful, Finnley. We’re getting close to something big. They know it too.”
