Chapter 6: The Old Allies
Finnley knew he couldn’t fight this battle alone. He needed people who had known his father and worked with him before Reagan took control.
He started reaching out to some of his father’s old employees.
The first person he contacted was Mr. George Patel, who used to be the chief accountant at the company. George had retired two years ago, but Finnley still remembered him as an honest man who had always been loyal to his father.
They met at a small café near the old company building.
When Finnley explained what he had found, George looked both surprised and angry.
“I always suspected something was wrong,” George said. “After you were sent to prison, a lot of strange transactions started happening. Money was being moved around in ways that didn’t make sense. I tried to ask questions, but I was told to stay out of it.”
He paused, then added, “I left not long after because I couldn’t stand what was happening to the company your father built.”
Finnley felt a small spark of hope.
“Do you still have any records from that time?”
George nodded.
“I kept copies of some files. I had a feeling they might be useful one day. I can send them to you.”
Finnley thanked him and gave George his new number.
Over the next few days, he also reached out to two other former employees — a secretary who used to work closely with his father, and a warehouse manager who had witnessed some of the suspicious deliveries.
Both of them agreed to meet with him.
Slowly, Finnley was starting to build a network of people who were willing to help him uncover the truth.
For the first time since he got out of prison, he didn’t feel completely alone.
He had the will.
He had the documents from the storage unit.
And now, he was beginning to have allies.
Reagan and Carter might still think they had the upper hand.
But Finnley was no longer fighting in the dark.
