Chapter 11: The Suspicious Death
Finnley couldn’t ignore the growing feeling that his father’s death wasn’t natural.
The more he looked into the medical records, the more certain he became that something was wrong. According to the documents, Camden Dennis had been responding well to treatment in the beginning. Then suddenly, his condition worsened very quickly.
Finnley decided to visit the private doctor who had treated his father in the final weeks. The doctor had since moved to another city, but Finnley managed to get his contact information through an old employee.
When he finally spoke to the doctor over the phone, the man sounded cautious.
“Your father’s decline was unusually fast,” the doctor admitted. “At first, I thought it was just the cancer progressing. But some of the symptoms didn’t match what I expected. I even suggested running more tests, but your stepmother insisted we continue with the current treatment.”
Finnley felt his chest tighten.
“Did you ever suspect that someone might have been giving him something harmful?”
There was a long pause.
“I had my doubts,” the doctor finally said. “But I had no proof. And after he passed away, I was told not to speak about the case. Your stepmother made it very clear that she wanted privacy.”
Finnley thanked the doctor and ended the call.
He now had enough reason to believe that Reagan might have played a role in speeding up his father’s death. Whether it was through medication or something else, he was determined to find out.
That night, Finnley sat in his motel room and looked at the toxicology report again.
If Reagan had truly caused his father’s death, then this was no longer just about money and the house.
