Chapter 15: The Letter He Left

Three months later, Finnley stood at Pinecrest Cemetery.

He had arranged for a small memorial stone to be placed next to his mother’s grave. Even though his father had been cremated, Finnley wanted a place where he could come to remember him.

The stone was simple. It only had one line:

Camden Dennis
Father. Believer in the truth.

Finnley stood in front of the stone, holding the old letter in his hand.

The wind was cold, but he didn’t mind.

He looked down at the letter and spoke quietly.

“I did it, Dad,” he said. “I got everything back. I cleared my name. And I know the truth now.”

He paused for a moment.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t save you. But I promise I’ll live the life you wanted for me.”

He placed the letter gently on top of the stone.

The wind picked it up for a second before settling it back down.

Finnley stood there a little longer, then turned and walked away.

He didn’t look back.

For the first time in years, Finnley Dennis was finally free.

He had lost his father.

He had lost three years of his life.

But he had gained something far more important.

He had gained the truth.

And now, he could finally start living again.
